About This Item

Angus & Robertson, Sydney, 1946. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Photographic. VIII, 256 pages, last three pages blank, text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs juxtaposing dry Australia with wet Australia. Written in the years before the war, with the author's note obviously written during the war, it was the author's contention that the 600,000 returned troops at the end of the war could be employed in northern Queensland to redirect the water that flows out to sea from along the Cape, and the regions down to Townsville, into the centre of Australia, setting up a cycle of evaporation and rain, allowing reafforestation, and industrialisation, thereby permitting Australia to populate with millions more people the central areas of the continent. There are a couple of maps detailing these plans. Obviously Sir Robert Menzies thought better of doing it to the Snowy Mountains. slight darkening of the edges of the pages, fading of the spine section, a couple of pale marks at the left-hand side of the front panel, original bookseller's sticker on the inside of the front paste down, hinge webbing visible at the title page, no such problem at the rear of the book. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Photographic. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Engineering, Industrial, Trade; Australia; Indigenous Cultures. Inventory No: 0285563. .
