About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead, 1883. First Edition . Hardcover. Good. H.W. McVickar. Good in original illustrated boards with wear at the extremities, spine darkened, rubbing, small spots on the rear panel. The front endpaper is detached, but present. This is an ex-library copy--not normally a plus, but in this case somewhat different. The bookplate of the Boston Public Library on the front pastedown states that his copy was given to the library by Oliver Wendell Holmes. Therefore this is a presentation copy to the major public library in Holmes' home area. Most of the typical library markings absent, but there is a spine label and cataloguing notations are on the copyright page, but we have noticed no further markings.
