About This Item

Limited Edition, No. 469 of 500. Heritage Fine Art 1976.. Attractive copy in excellent frame. Framed. Image size 370mm wide x 260mm high, framed size 540mm x 420mm. Sold framed (not recommended for overseas sale due to freight costs). The Levys were given pay, supplies, and weaponry but were ad hoc units that were disbanded at the conclusion of the 7th Frontier War (1846-1847). The Graaff-Reinet Levy comprised a maximum of 100 men. These forces were used to drive the Xhosa from the mountainous Amatola region. This illustrates the Levy accompanied by The Cape Mounted Rifles in pursuit of Xhosa fighters in the Amatola mountains.
