About This Item

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1955. Boards. Very Good +/Very Good. A very presentable copy of this early (but not 1st) edition of Flannery O'Connor's 2nd published book. Lacking the "first edition" statement to the copyright page and price-clipped to boot. Still though, a very early state and elusive as such. Solid and VG+ (very light spotting at the front panel) in a crisp, VG dustjacket, with mild soiling along the covers, just a touch of light chipping at the spine ends and mild fading to the spine. Octavo, widely viewed as her "breakthrough" book, in spite of the greatness of "Wise Blood"

Synopsis

A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories is a collection of short stories by American author Flannery O'Connor. The Southern Gothic collection was first published in 1955 by Hartcourt, Brace and Company. The short stories explore O'Connor's grotesque view of life which is often realistic and ultimately hopeful. A Good Man is Hard to Find is her second published work and established O'Connor as a major voice in American literature. Short stories in the collection include "The River," "The Life You Save May Be Your Own," and "A Good Man Is Hard To Find" - its namesake.
