About This Item
London: Fisher Unwin, 1911. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: T. Fisher Unwin 1911). First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to the upper board and spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece (with tissue-guard) and 20 black and white plates. A very good copy (offsetting to both sets of end-papers, spine very slightly faded, some faint oxidisation to the gilt design to the front board, foxing to the page block edges which has crept into the text in places, spine tips a little pushed). No inscriptions. In the very scarce VG dustwrapper priced 10/6 net to the spine. The dustwrapper has shallow wear at the head and tail of the spine and to the top left-hand corner of the back panel. A wide-ranging social and cultural history of food and feasting around the world from ancient times to the early twentieth century. Essential reading for anyone interested in historical eating and cookery in England. Uncommon in nice condition and especially so in its original dustwrapper. Photographs/scans available upon request.
