In it the author recounts her travels, her first, to the Malay States in 1879. "What was extraordinary was not so much that she made the trip but that she recorded her impressions of every play she visited so vividly. She missed little, whether in Singapore, in a river kampong or in the jungle, and this book bears testimony not only to her acute powers of observation, but also to her critical faculty." -- from the rear panel blurb.
