About This Item
Exeter, Devon: Webb & Bower, 1980 0906671191. First Edition. First printing of first hardback edition. Fine/VG. DW has some very slight marks of use but is close to Fine. Not price clipped. No inscriptions or annotations. Red leather-style binding decorated and lettered in gilt. 220 pages including index. Nearly 8" by 10". Lavishly illustrated, mainly in colour with over 100 facsimile pages, including some pull-out ones, from 'The Delhie Book' compiled by Sir Thomas Metcalfe some 10 years before the Indian 'Mutiny' or 'Uprising', who specially commissioned illustrations from some of the finest Delhi artists of his time. The book is essentially based on his reminiscences and those of his daughter, Emily, Lady Clive Bayley annotated throughout by M. M. Kaye. A most handsome edition which would make an appropriate gift. .
