About This Item
Fourteen volumes of Goethe's Works. The Weimar Edition, printed for subscribers only, by Northern Press, Weimar, New York. The Weimar Edition limited to One Hundred Specially Printed and Bound Copies of which these copies are No. 1. No date or publisher listed, assumed early 1900. Red leather covers as shown with this listing are rubbed and worn in places. Gilt stamping on front and back covers and spine, spines have five raised bands. Gilt tops, rough cut edges (edges are aged), head and tail bands. Cover leather overlaps onto inside of front and back boards with gilt decorations. Gilt initials stamped on ivory silk moire on front endpapers, back silk moire endpapers have gilt decoration. Book-blocks appear to be unmarked. Books have a four-color frontispiece with tissue guard also four-color illustration in the text block. Some of the volumes have the front endpaper either detached or loose (pulling away from the hinge) and some bindings are loose.
Titles are: Faust Vols I & II, Poetical Works Vols I & II, Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship Vols I & II, Iphigenia in Tauris, Truth and Fiction Relating to My Life Vols I & II, Letters from Switzerland, Sorrows of Young Werther, Wilhelm Meister's Travels, and the Life of Goethe Vols I & II written by G.
