About This Item
Synopsis
Pearl Buck's book, God's Men, is a strong novel. It covers the Boxer Rebellion of 1900 up to the struggles of the 1950's, from China, to America, to England. It dramatizes the lifelong confrontation of two men, both children of Protestant missionaries in China. One, Clem Miller, is a humanitarian whose goal is to feed the hungry people of the world and dedicates all of his energy and money to that end. William Lane, on the other hand, is a manipulative journalist whose wealth and influence drives him in his attempt to shape America to his own authoritarian beliefs.
