About This Item

New York, NY: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1972. [Literary Autobiography] INSCRIBED FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.252 [4]. INSCRIBED by the author in black marker to flyleaf: 'For Betty and Susan | my LA | tennis-nemesisses | I hope you like the | book | best | Mario.' Publisher's quarter black cloth with gilt titles to spine, and white cloth over boards with a blind signature stamped to upper. Orange endpapers; fore and lower edges untrimmed. With the dust-jacket showing titles in red and green, designed by Joe Tully and priced at $6.95. Some marks to boards; a little shaken. Jacket sunned to spine, with a small tape repair to the inside of the tail and a scotch tape repair to rear cover. Light bruising and tiny closed tears to edges, and a sticker partially removed from the foot of the jacket spine. Very good. A collection of autobiographical sketches about the writer's life, his cultural background, and the making of the film which made his story into a phenomenon far beyond the usual best-seller. Very rarely seen inscribed.
