About This Item

G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1969. Hardcover in dust jacket. Book in NEAR FINE condition. Dust Jacket in VERY GOOD condition. True 1st Edition and First Printing SIGNED by author Mario Puzo DIRECTLY ON FRONT PAGE (not on a laid in signature or added postcard). A very nice copy with a hint of wear to lower edges. The binding is tight and the white cloth boards are crisp. The pages are clean, with no writing, marks or bookplates in the book. The dust jacket has the original $6.95 price on front flap and a few rubs and creases to edges, but complete and no paper loss whatsoever. Overall, a sharp clean copy of this scarce First Edition in collector's condition. Pictures available on request. $4,500

The Godfather is a classic crime novel by Mario Puzo, detailing the story of a fictional Mafia family in New York in the 1940s and 1950s. This novel introduced America to the first family of crime fiction - the Corleones, and it remains a classic in American popular culture. Power, greed, and family loyalty all play out in this portrayal of the mafia underworld. Author Mario Puzo wrote the book based on his personal need for the cash advance, and the paperback rights for The Godfather went on to sell for a record $410,000. The mega-blockbuster 1972 film directed by Francis Ford Coppola featured Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and James Caan, among others.
