The sections are entitled "Was," "The Fire and the Hearth," "Pantaloon in Black," "The Old People," "The Bear," "Delta Autumn," and "Go Down, Moses." Generally these sections are considerably rewritten from previously published short stories bearing the same titles" (Petersen A21b). Brodsky & Hamblin 574. First Printing, trade issue. Octavo (21cm); in the first issue black cloth binding, with titling and rule in stamped in gilt and red on spine and front panel; red topstain; dustjacket; [viii],[2],3-383,[1]pp. A fresh, Fine copy, with the topstain bright and unfaded. Synopsis
Go Down, Moses is a collection of Faulkner's stories that once strung together, tell the composite history of the McCaslin family, specifically of the white and black descendants of Lucius Quintus Carothers McCaslin and the residents of the plantation he founded.
