Venezia, Gio. Battista Bertoni, 1601.. SECOND EDITION 1601. Text in Italian. Slim small 4to, 195 x 140 mm, 7¾ x 5½ inches, engraved title page with elaborate architectural border incorporating printer's 'pilgrim' device which is repeated in slightly different form on colophon, 11 engraved plates, of which 6 full page, plus 11 woodcut illustrations in the text, some decorative tailpieces and initials, leaves: [3], 4-47, [1] - colophon, numbered on rectos only, making a total of 96 pages, last page blank, bound in full antique vellum, double ruled gilt border and corner ornaments to covers with at centre a small gilt decorative medallion with monogram FSV, raised bands and gilt rules to spine, gilt lettered morocco label, edges speckled red, marbled endpapers. Vellum slightly marked, spine a little darkened, tiny private library label to front pastedown, very short closed tear to fore-edge of front endpaper neatly repaired, occasional small pale mark to margin, otherwise contents very bright and clean. Binding tight and firm. A very good copy. Adams, Books Printed in Europe 1501-1600, page 535, No. 367; Harvard, Italian 16th Century Books, Volume I, No.231, both listing the first edition of 1589 which had the same design of title page, foliation and illustrations.
