New York A. S. Seer's Engraving and Printing Establishment, 391881, paperback. Apparently the first U.S. printing. -- As performed by Sig. [Signor] Salvini, under the management of John Stetson. Parallel text, the original Italian opposite the English translation. Introduction (Argument) in English, says "the motive of this play is the tyranny of the wealthier and patrician classes of old Rome." The title character was a slave who escaped and proposed a revolt of the slaves to a Christian man living in the Catacombs. A variation to the "Spartacus" narrative, this plot includes the Gladiator's search for his daughter. -- Advertisements for opera hats and Chickering piano. -- Softcover, fragile paper wrappers, 99 pages, 6x9 inches. Good-only used condition (cover and pages corners are chipped or creased; spine worn at tips; pages are clear and binding remains tight).
