About This Item
New York:: Farrar, Straus & Giroux,, 1979.. Hardcover first edition -. Very near fine in a like dustjacket (crease to corner of photograph). First printing. A collection of 5 pieces: the title piece refers to the farmers selling at the Greenmarket in New York City. Also included is are essays on a white water trip in Maine, a proposed floating nuclear power plant which would be off the coast of New Jersey, and on pinbal machines. The longest piece is about a chef just outside NYC, who wants to remain anonymous, so the focus will be on his food. The comments made by this chef caused a lot of controversy when first published in the New Yorker, and now, on pg. 245 there is a meek little footnote "Otto guessed wrong." Review copy with glossy photograph of McPhee laid in. 261 pp.
