"Centennial Edition" at head of front cover. No publication information, but identical in format to other booklets by Raymond I. Haskell (1891-1979) that were produced by the Girard College Print Shop in 1848, the year of the school's centennial. Here the author discusses the establishment of the school in the context of public education in the United States in the 1830s. Haskell taught at Girard College from the 1930s to his retirement in the 1960s. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: closed 1-cm. tear from fore-edge of front cover and crease along that edge; otherwise, clean and bright.

Haskell (1891-1979), discusses the architecture of the most prominent building on the Girard College campus, Founder's Hall, designed by Thomas Ustich Walter.
