Publisher's blue pebbled cloth boards paneled in gilt with gilt-stamped spines, top edges gilt. 982 pp across two volumes. 12 3/4 x 9 inches. 11 1/2 lbs together. Black and white illustrations with text, titles printed red and black, one sepia photogravure frontispiece portrait in each volume, including one of George Washington. Former library copy with stickers on spines, stamps on colophons, card pockets at rear, and stamps on fore-edges. Heavy paper. Laid-in insert reads: "The text of these volumes was set on the linotype and printed direct from the slugs." Text clean. A foundational catalogue raisonne of Stuart's paintings, an invaluable reference work. This is Volume I and II only, these are the text volumes.
