About This Item

[L. FRANK BAUM, RUTH PLUMLY THOMPSON]. THE GIANT HORSE OF OZ. Reilly & Lee, Chicago, 1928. First Edition, First printing. First State. Condition: G+. Appears lightly read, publisher's original dark brick-red cloth, illustrated endpapers, colors on plates are still vibrant, front/back hinges cracked though webbing is still attached to boards/text block, binding shaken, some offsetting opposite color plates due to age, some dampstains / soiling to extremities of pages / outer text block, rubbing to cloth board extremities typical of books of this age, else pages are generally very clean, unmarked and bright. Hinges can easily be repaired at a professional bookbinder. Near invisible previous owner's indent of pencil inscription completely erased on ownership page. All 12 color plates present. This is the very first printing of the first edition with all first edition points met; the letter "r" in morning on page 116 line 1 is not damaged, "Quiberon" is misspelled "Oniberon" on the frontispiece caption and pages 126 ~127 printed in order. Lacking only the scarce dust jacket. The eighth book by author Ruth Plumly Thompson originally created by L. Frank Baum, this is the 22nd title in the Wizard of Oz series. Cover art and 12 color interior plates with numerous B&W illustrations by John R. Neill. Classic fantasy children's book, scarce collectible. 283 pgs. 4to.
