Written in three parts it covers (1) the diverse roles German-Americans have played in American life from colonial times to the present, (2) the German-American participation in U.S. military history since the frontier wars of the 1750s and 60s, and (3) the German-American contributions to America in Science and education." Just to cite two specific examples: the first formal protest against Negro slavery came out of Germantown, Reobling built the first railroad bridge and when German immigration reached its crest in 1854 half of all immigrants that year were German. Bibliography, index. xi, 238 pp.
