About This Item

The First UK printing published by The Hogarth Press, London in 1939. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Light pushing at the spine ends and a little bumping to the corners. Some mild age related markings to the boards. Red lettering to the spine as called for. Light offsetting to the blank endpapers and a little light toning and spotting to the text-block. Free from inscriptions. The errata slip to the contents page is present as issued. The fragile paper WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. A little loss at the spine ends, corners and a few very tiny areas of loss to the spine and front corner (see images). The red printed wrapper with a photograph of the tomb of the unknown warrior in Munich to the front cover is correctly priced at '12s 6d' to the spine. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. Only 1500 copies were issued in November 1939 (Woolmer 458), with one subsequent reprinting the following year. A history of the German army from Frederick The Great up-to the invasion of Poland in 1939. One of the scarcest Hogarth Press titles especially with such attributes. Only the second copy we have handled. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
