About This Item

New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1943. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. Near fine/very good. Signed first edition of Georgia Boy by Erskine Caldwell.. Octavo, [8], 239pp. Orange cloth, title in silver on spine. Stated "first edition" on copyright page. Solid text block, a touch of wear along edges, small crease on page 1, a near fine example. In publisher's dust jacket, $2.00 retail price on front flap, loss along top edge, sunning on spine, some shelf wear (most notably on back panel), a very good example. This copy is inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, stating "For Jed Harris who could pass for a Georgia Boy himself, Erskine Caldwell. May 6, 1943." Jed Harris (1900-1979) was a theater director and producer, most notably working on a variety of Broadway productions in the 1920s and 30s. Originally born in Austria, Harris and his family moved to the U.S. in 1901. His productions earned seven total awards, including a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize.
