Montreal: Editions La Fregate. Very Good-. 1973. First Edition. Hardcover. 25.5 x 33.5 cm. oblong Sound and square binding in suede-covered boards. Housed in paper-covered sleeve. Edges have some rub wear. Spine is sun-faded. Tiny scuff mark on lower board. There are tape-shadow marks on the front free endpaper, from a letter gifting the book to the previous owner in 1974, which remains laid in. Otherwise, the inside pages are overall clean and bright, with minor marks in the margins of a couple of pages. The sleeve is faded along the opening and top. The suede along the edges where the book slides in has some damage. All sleeve edges show some degree of rubbing or minor soil, none of it too heavy. A limited edition book, with thirty nine tipped-in colour reproductions of artwork by Scottish-Canadian artist George Heriot, depicting scenes from Upper and Lower Canada and Nova Scotia during the early 1800's. Printed on heavy paper with deckle edges. Text in English and French. This is number 72 of 110 numbered copies and has been initialed by Hugues de Jouvancourt, who wrote the introductory essay about Heriot and designed the book.
