London: Printed for N. C. and sold by J. Wilcox, 1721 Sixth edition with "large additions." Octavo. 7½x4½ inches. Pp. iv, 1-304 (i.e.: 288), 285-438, [2], 1-115, [9, index]. Copper-engraved frontis plate plus 3 (of 4) folding copper-engraved plates (lacking hunting plate), numerous head and tail pieces. Contemporary paneled calf. Light wear to head of spine, upper front hinge starting, corners rubbed (one with light wear), light extremity rubbing, almost imperceptible damp stain to lower edge of some leaves. Early signatures and dates on endpaper. Overall, a very good copy, internally clean. The text of this work includes hunter’s terms, with text on dogs, greyhounds, styles of hunting, hunting of deer, hares, bucks, rabbits, foxes, badgers, squirrels, wolves, bears, beavers, otters, and other animals; maladies of hunting dogs, terms of hawking and falconry, on hawks and a complete description of hawking, an account of fowling, song-birds, bats, pheasants, taking small birds in bushes, the stalking horse, how to hunt on a horse, water-birds, magpies, quails, and many others; how to train setting dogs, angling in general, how to fish, how to raise carps in ponds, types of angling tools, how to catch carps, perch, salmon, trout; a lengthy text on the hunting-horse, how to train, ride, and use, and its maladies and treatment. The last section on Manwood’s Forest Laws, is complete with its own title page dated 1721..

The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
