Wadsworth was a wealthy New York land owner whose strong anti-slavery views prompted him to join the Army at age 53. His close ties with the Lincoln administration and his demonstrated abiblities on the battlefield saw him rise to command the 5th Corps. He was mortally wounded in the Wilderness Campagin, captured by the Confederates, and died in an enemy field hospital. Contains chapter notes, an index, and a bibliography in the rear. There is a remainder mark on the bottom edge, else this is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket in similarly nice condition with no chips, tears, or markings. ; B&W Photographs & Maps; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 352 pages .
