Cape Town: A. S. Robertson, 1838. First edition.. A bright and clean copy in near fine condition.. Pp. lxvi, 429. Contemporary one-half green morocco leather, spine with 5 raised bands lettered in gilt in 2 compartments and with gilt panel lines and decorations highlighting each raised band, over green cloth-covered boards, top page edge in gilt, other page edges are deckled, original marbled endpapers, 8vo. This volume is the first substantial botanical work published in South Africa. The work provided an introduction to the flora of South Africa and paved the way for Harvey's massive seven volume treatise, Flora Capensis. Inscribed by the author to Mr. Macqueen, dated 1838. No other ownership marks. See also Stafleu and Cowan 2436.
