About This Item
London : John Westhouse, 1945. First Brandt edition. Seventeenth-century translations of Rabelais by Sir Thomas Urquhart (1611-1660) and Peter Anthony Motteux (1660-1718), here combined with the extraordinary illustrations of Rolf A. Brandt (1906-1986). Introduction by Denis Saurat. Demy 8vo (23cm). [xvi],(270),[ii]pp. Fourteen plates by Brandt. Original black cloth, lettered in gilt; a touch rubbed and slightly rolled; a few minor marks and spots, but a good copy in the Brandt dust-jacket - lightly tanned, slightly worn, nicked and split, with some neat taped repairs, but substantially complete and not unattractive.
