The first U.K. edition of this exciting Philo Vance case, presented in a scarce dust wrapper. This is the ninth of twelve books writing featuring Van Dine's sleuth Philo Vance, set after Vance has been invited to a gathering following the horse races.S. S. Van Dine was the pseudonym of art critic Willard Huntington Wright, used due to his embarrassment at producing mass market fiction. Under the name, he quickly became one of the best-selling authors in the United States, although he had been unmasked by 1928. The first British edition; this work was first published by Scribner's the U.S.A.Complete with a scarce and unclipped dust wrapper. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally generally smart; a little bumped to the head and tail of the spine. Dust wrapper has loss to the head and particularly the tail of the spine, as well as the edges. Spine has a label beneath the title and is also sunned. Remnants of a bookseller's stamp to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a touch age-toned at the edges, with just the odd spot. Very Good
