An amusing first edition collection of games for children and their families to play at gatherings, published in the late nineteenth century and written by Mrs. Valentine. First Edition.In the publisher's original cloth binding.Illustrated with numerous in-text illustrations throughout the text.This is a wonderful collection of games for children and their families to play at parties. This volume is intended to supply guest with 'a selection of the time-honoured amusements of our forefathers', including new games of the day and activities for 'elder members of the family' to join in with too.Written by Mrs. Valentine, otherwise known as Laura Valentine (1814-1899), who was a Victorian English writer. She was primarily known for her children's literature.Thirty-two pages of publisher's adverts to rear of text.Undated, so dated off of Jisc using similar copies held at libraries at the University of Oxford as well as Cambridge.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. A bit of edge wear to extremities with bumping to the head and tail of spine. Wear to spine, particularly to the raised bands of joints, with a few marks to boards. Gilt on front board and spines has lightly faded. Endpapers are age-toned. Internally, firmly bound, with binding loosening a bit more towards the middle. Pages are bright and clean throughout, with light age-toning to margins and the odd spot. Very Good
