New York: Horace Liveright, 1929. Signed Limited Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. 2 volumes (823 pages) ; 25 cm. Small 4to's. Hardcovers. Publisher's original 1/4 tan paper with silver embeded metal decorations on black paper over boards, dark embossed lettering to spine. Paged continuously. Issued in a case (lacking) "Limited to five hundred and sixty numbered and signed copies, 535 of which are for sale"...of which this is number 298. Book Condition: sun toned spines, shallow chipping to spine ends, small splashes to both. Bindings very sound, and decorated covers bright and unmarred; internally brilliant and unmarred-Very Good+. Slipcase is lacking. [the label from said slipcase has been preserved and is laid in.]. A bravura example of high quality bookmaking. This was priced at $20 in 1929 when it published; that's the equivalent (roughly) of $300 today [in 2020 dollars]. Theodore Dreiser was nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature in 1930; though as it turned out, that was the year that the prize was awarded to Sinclair Lewis.
