Quarto. (12 1/4 in. x 9 1/4 in.) Tan cloth with black binding. Sillhouette graphic of a mounted man quaffing a flagon of spirits, a pipe-smoking gent and a lady holding her cup, surrounded by five tail-wagging hounds. Orange printed label affiixed to front board in the design of the hanging exterior sign of an Inn, stating: "FULL and BY/Being a Collection of Verses by Persons of Quality with Designs to Fit All Humours". Repeated in miniature with a little devil-caricature holding up the sign with his feet, tail swishing. A little smudging and staining to boards, and wear to corners. Front board a wee bit loosey-goosey, but no separating. Publisher's red topstain; fore-edge and tail untrimmed.
Orange and black endpapers featuring a quote from Hamlet, a frolicking Satan, etc. On a preliminary page (with a lovely, multicolored illustration) the and handwritten words, in turquoise ink, : "Property of/ Edw. A. Wilson/Truro, Mass.". Ilustrator's initialed ownership stamp in red to top right corner of this same page.

This fabulous book is LOADED with full-page drawings of classic drinking themes *(and its consequences!), in brilliant turquoise, yellow, red, black, as well as numerous smaller black and white drawings, headcaps. "Full and By, the situation of a ship with regard to the wind, when she is close hauled, and sailing in such a manner as neither to steer too nigh the direction of the wind, nor deviate to leeward; both of which movements are unfavorable to her course, as in the former her sails will shiver and render the effort of the wind precarious and ineffectual; and in the latter she will advance in a direction widely distant from her real course. Hence, keep her full! is the order from the pilot or other officer to the helmsman not to incline too much to windward, and thereby shake the sails so as to retard the Course."
