About This Item

New York [1908], Eaton. Green cloth, 292p., very good, photo frontis, many b.w photos, maps, one large folding color map, bibliography, 6 appendices, index. Fascinating work representing one in a series of books resu- resulting from a cross-denominational meeting in 1901 to en- courage the youth of America to spread across the workd as evangelists. Of particular iinterest in this volume are the extensive sections on the geographic, economic and social problems of converting the American indians in various res- ervations across the country, as well as the new immigrants such as the Japanese & Chinese populations in the West & in San Francisco. The author has included numerous photos of these groups and their efforts in conjunction with the move- ment. Decidedly racist in tone, there is much of the turn- of-the century European imperialistic attitude in the writ- ing. A rather obscure resource. With a subject bibliography Chinese, Japanese & some o ther people among others. Inclu- dues Hindues, Chinese slave trade, Japanese students in Am- erica, Japanese in California, the Real Yellow Peril, Japan- ese in San Francisco, Hindu immigrants in America et al. .
