FIRST EDITION 1860, 8vo, approximately 190 x 125 mm, 7½ x 5 inches, pages: xv, (1), 1-240, including index, bound in the original publisher's cloth, gilt lettering to upper cover and spine, pale yellow endpapers, book-binder's small label at foot of rear pastedown. Spine rubbed, sides unevenly faded, cloth lightly stained and slightly spotted, gilt on spine dull, wear to head and tail of spine, tiny nicks to cloth which have been glued, armorial bookplate on front pastedown, modern bookplate on front endpaper, (Peter Williams, Morley-Davies), pale foxing to reverse of endpapers and to half-title, a very occasional pale fox spot within.
