Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. 12 1/8" x 8 1/4", frontispiece and 355 black and white illustrations each with detailed annotation; the pages are unnumbered, the index referring directly to the illustration numbers. Shows as many types of freight vehicles as possible, designed for, or actually transporting, their specific traffic over the past century. The binding of this book is both rational and unusual, in that the pictures demanded a long page, and the book is bound as a tall book. The unconventional binding with the spine at the head of the page provides for a much more stable book than the normal alternative. .
