About This Item

New York: D. Appleton and Co., 1919. Third Printing (stated) . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Wrenn, Charles L.. Bound in tan boards backed with brown cloth; the front cover carries an applique. Originally published in 1918. Third printing, with a 1919 title page date and the (3) on the last page of the text. This is the first state binding, as Appleton made some concessions to wartime paper restrictions (voluntary). Later printings would occur in full cloth. With four illustrations in color by Charles L. Wrenn (all present). The choice of the gray-green lettering was a poor one, as the lettering did not stand out against the dark brown cloth of the spine. It is faint but legible on this copy. The boards show moderate edgewear with small frays at the corners; the cloth at the head and heel of the spine is slightly rubbed. The applique is unchipped but lightly rubbed. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight, unmarked copy. One of the author's non-series titles.
