London: J and R Tonson, 1751. Leather. Good. 7" by 4". none. A collection of political essays from the founder of The Spectator, Joseph Addison. Including The Character and Conversation of a Tory Fox-hunter, Of the Fickleness of the British Politicks, Subscriptions to the Female Association and many more. Bookplate of William Thirlwall Bayne to front pastedown. Joseph Addison was a essayist, poet and politician. His foray in to the world of politics began when Addison was invited to write a poem depicting the Battle of Blenheim, by the Lord Treasurer. This work was so well received that it earned him a place in parliament, as Commissioner of Appeals. He would hold numerous positions in government from that time on, eventually ended up as the MP for Malmesbury, a position he held until his death in 1719. In a calf binding. Externally, rubbed. With wear to the extremities, and both boards held by the cords only. Previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown, and remains of label to front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of foxing. Good
