Description:
New York: National Coordinating Committee to Free the Five, [197-]. A poster advertising two demonstrations on behalf of five Puerto Rican nationalists jailed for militant acts in support of Puerto Rican independence. Oscar Collazo was one of two nationalists who attempted to assassinate Harry Truman in 1950. Truman commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment and Collazo was pardoned by Jimmy Carter in 1979 whence he returned to Puerto Rico. Andres Cordero, Irvin Flores, Lolita Lebron and Rafael Miranda took part in an armed attack against the House of Representatives in 1954, in which five representatives were wounded. They were all pardoned by Carter as well. Offset printed in red, blue and black on white stock (17 ½" x 22"). Stamp of the Puerto Rican Solidarity Committee, New Haven branch to the bottom right corner; nicks and small closed tears along the edges, faint splatter to the top right corner. Not found by us in OCLC, although we note a copy at the Library of Congress.
