About This Item

San Francisco: John Howell -- Books, 1970. Biography of the painter, who found success in Germany after being scorned by his local Ohio peers; he was later a successful teacher, influencing the generation who turned away from the Hudson River School. Later scholarship tended to ignore Duveneck & his school, being more interested in impressionists & other European schools. The author was the subject's daughter-in-law. Hardcover, as pictured; no jacket, likely as issued; one of 1000 printed. Light wear, some scuffs & small stains, several small dents to rear cover; some pages unopened: that is, the fore-edge has not been trimmed, leaving the original folds of the gatherings of some sections intact, so some pages are connected at the fore-edge. Text clean; [ix], blank, 169, [3] pages. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Frank Duveneck. Quarto.
