In this biography of England's Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626) the author examines, among other things, the charges leveled against him for corruption as he sat in high office. Includes several black & white images on plates, depicting Queen Elizabeth, James I and other notables, one of which is a frontis portrait of Sir Francis. --- In dark red cloth-covered boards with titling in gilt to spine. Jacket with detail from the frontis portrait of Bacon. --- With what appears to be spilled coffee to textblock fore-edge and edges of jacket, else a clean, tightly-bound, bright copy. Jacket with one-inch tear near head of spine and a little chafing to edges, else intact and protected in removable archival mylar protector.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (12), 245 pages .
