About This Item
New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc, 1991. First edition. Stated. First printing [stated]. Hardcover. Good in good dust jacket. DJ has some soiling and edge wear. Sticker residue at barcode at back. DJ flap creased.. 335 p. Illustrations. Filmography. Index. For the first time in twenty-five years, one of America's top investigative reporters reopens the case of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, a man accused of murdering a girl named Virginia Rappe. People remember him as "the fat comedian who raped that young girl". They may not know he was one of the highest-paid talents of his time and that he was completely innocent. In 1921 'Fatty' Arbuckle was the highest paid film comedian of the day; yet today many people remember him only as an alleged rapist. To celebrate his new Paramount contract (worth $3m. ), Arbuckle threw a noisy party which led to allegations by a starlet named Virginia Rappe that she was assaulted with a champagne bottle (she died five days later). Arbuckle was charged with first degree murder and rail-roaded through three trials. This book's author says he was framed and produces her evidence.
