New York: Harper & Brothers, 1938. First Edition. Spine a little faded; endpapers browned; overall very good in dust jacket. Presentation copy; inscribed by the famously shy author with a humorous poem, “Raymond Holden, I’ve been thinking, Books are for the young to write: My old muse has took to drinking - What a gal, kid - what a plight! With best from Andy (or, as they say on the jacket, E.B. White). North Brooklin, Me/ 13 October 1938.” Holden, a poet, was the second husband of Louis Bogan, one time poetry editor at the New Yorker. She and Holden divorced in 1937.
