About This Item
London: Methuen & Co. Ltd, 1930. Cloth. Very Good. 12.5" by 9". E. H. Shepard. An illustrated work containing a selection of Milne's children's poems, set to music by the composer Harold Fraser-Simson. The thirteenth impression of this work. Illustrated with decorations to each of the musical notations by E. H. Shepard (1879-1976), the English book illustrator who is best known for illustrating both 'The Wind in the Willows' and 'Winnie-the-Pooh'. This is a selection of verses from 'When We Were Very Young, the best-selling work of children's poetry by A. A. Milne, set to music by Harold Fraser-Simson. Contents include verses from poems such as 'Happiness', 'Missing', 'Hoppity', 'Growing Up', 'The Three Foxes', and 'Market Square', with charming relevant illustrations to most pages. Harold Fraser-Simson (1872-1944) was an English composer of 'light music', whose most famous musical was 'The Maid of the Mountains'. He set various children's verses to music, including 'The Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame. A. A. Milne (1882-1956) was an English author who is perhaps best known for creating the character of Winnie-the-Pooh. His father was a bookseller by the name of Christopher Robin Milne, and ultimately served as the main inspiration for his popular literary character. In the publisher's original quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart, with some light shelf wear and a few light marks to the boards. A previous owner's light stamp to the front free-endpaper. Internally, binding lightly strained. The odd spot to the pages, which are otherwise clean throughout. Very Good
