Revised 1965 edition, in publisher's blue cloth with spine lettering gilt, octavo, pp. 254. Black and white illustrations. The author's examinations of James Boswell, Edward Gibbon, Laurence Sterne, and John Wilkes. Just light shelf wear at spine ends and board tips and a touch of fading to the cloth at lower edge of front panel and upper edge of rear panel. Dust jacket likewise, with light chipping and erosion at spine ends and flap fold points. Jacket now in removable sheet of Brodart.
