About This Item

London, UK: Smith, Elder, & Co,, 1888. Hardcover. Poor/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5?" - 6?" tall. Type: Hardback Smith, Elder & Co., LOndon, 1888. Hardcover Book in Poor Condition. No Jacket, as issued. The Pocket Edition of Thackeray's Works, William Makepeace Thackeray, 1811-1863. Thackeray wrote "The Four Georges": Kings-- George I, George II, George III, George IV, from a series of lectures he gave in London on the English humorists of the 18th century and on the first four Hanoverian monarchs. Sketches of Manners, Morals, Court and Town Life. The rear panel is attached by "a thread" of the binding--book kept in archival bag to preserve--and not lose the panel! Red quarter cloth binding, brown marbelized boards, are clean, rubbed around all edges, corners rounded, ssome scuffing. The book will need repair--but is is a nice little 1888 volume for bibliophiles who treasure old books. The photos with the listing show the condition fairly well. Former owner name on endpapers, faintly. Pages are clean and mostly unmarked but there are checks and lines by text in a few places. The binding remains tight and solid. 320 pages. 6" x 4". 1888, Smith, Elder, & Co, London, UK
