Elizabeth City, NC: The Independent, 1934. First separate edition (originally appeared in the "Elizabeth City Independent"). 8vo. (30) pp., including satirical ads. Illustrated from line drawings. Humorous and satirical consideration of the New Deal program, carried through by the Civil Works Administration, to provide rural Americans with privies. Apparently not in Thornton. OCLC locates eight copies (Broward Co. Public, East Carolina, N.C. State, North Carolina, UNC-G, Brown, Texas, Virginia). Still a good copy. Original illustrated orange red (old light tideline runs through the lower third of text), stapled. (10309).
