Indianapolis, IN: The Bowen-Merrill Co., 1898. In the original green cloth with gilt titles and decorations, both volumes are Near Fine, cloth lightly rubbed, front hinge on volume II cracked. Daniel Woolsey Voorhees was a United States Senator from Indiana, a leader of the Democratic party and an anti-war Copperhead during the Civil War. A close friend of Abraham Lincoln, due to his stature he gained the nickname "the Tall Sycamore of the Wabash". A quite SCARCE and handsome 2 volume set. . First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
