Jewett, no. 23 Cornhill, 1849. 12mo, pp. 200, [4] ads; engraved frontispiece portrait; original blindstamped brown cloth, gilt-stamped spine; spine ends chipped, cloth with small crack along the front joint; some foxing, otherwise good and reasonably sound. This copy with a lengthy biography of the author on the front pastedown in pencil, and the early ownership signature of "Richard Spencer 1850" on the front free endpaper. Contains several original poems by the author (an amusing collection) and advertisements for temperance hotels and eating houses in Boston and Worcester.

[3], 4-200, [4] (pages of publisher's advertisements, including ads for temperance houses on the Northeastern Seaboard), [2] pp. Brown blindstamped cloth with copper lettering on the spine. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Dr. Jewett and with a few in-text wood engravings. A collection of short pieces advocating for abstention from alcohol, with propaganda portraying liquor dealers as lowly and opportunistic. A Very Good example with the crown of the spine chipped and with foxing to the frontispiece, two contemporary names on the front preliminaries.
