About This Item
Dublin: James McGlashan, 1847. First edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illustrations by Hablot K. Browne. Author's name does not appear on the title page, but an early book by Le Fanu, now remembered primarily for his ghost stories and the novel Uncle Silas. Plates with usual darkening typical of the period, pages very good. In contemporary leather and marble paper binding, rubbed and expertly respined preserving original label. A still pleasing copy of a scarce book. Though an adventure tale, Le Fanu's taste for the macabre comes through even in this early tale, as can be seen in a striking plate at page 114 captioned "The Black Guest of Drumgunniol.
