Its location on the Oregon Trail only emphasized its importance as a part of the overland experience, including the Mormon migration to Utah."---Clark/Brunet. "Has some material on road agents, stage hold ups, and a mention of Sam Bass."---Ramon Adams. Fort Laramie was an important military post, particularly in the 1850's and early 1860's. Includes material on the fur trade, first emigrants, missionaries, rival forts, pony express, Utah expedition, Black Hills, Wyoming, Harney massacres, etc. Laid-in are four pictorial photographic postcards of different buildings at Fort Laramie. Near fine copy.
