London: Rupert Hart-Davis, 1952 Book. Illus. by B & W Photos, Map. Good Plus. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Original navy cloth over boards with silver gilt lettering. Unclipped pictorial dustjacket features cover photo of men on donkeys in the desert, with black and red lettering. Dustjacket is missing a 1 1/2" section at bottom of spine and has some edgewear - it is now protected by a mylar jacket. Pencilled date and initials inside front cover. Heavy spotting to edges of textblock. The author (elder brother of author Ian Fleming, creator of "James Bond") travelled from Moscow to Peking in the mid-30's while researching a different book. The diary from that trip was relegated to a drawer and forgotten about until nearly 20 years later. 190 pp..
