About This Item

The Dial Press, New York, 1946. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good/Poor. Author's preface. Map illustrated end pages, showing the Arab world and Palestine. Green coloured cloth covered boards with yellow facsimile signature of author to the front panel and yellow coloured titles to the backstrip. Author's preface. Map illustrated end pages, showing the Arab world and Palestine. Green coloured cloth covered boards with yellow facsimile signature of author to the front panel and yellow coloured titles to the backstrip. "Against the exotic background of Africa and the white sands of the Arabian desert, van Paassen sketches in bold strokes the unknown intrigues, secret treaties, tribal espionage and international political scheming that shape the world of yesterday and are moulding the world of tomorrow. Although he deals specifically with the tragedy of the Jewish people, he integrates an age-old problem into the military, political and economic world panorama." – from the front fold over panel blurb. Softening and rubbing of the backstrip edges, top book corners and lower book edges. Some flecking to the lower book edges with tanning of the textblock edges and age toning of the pages. Original bookseller's rubber stamp to the top left-hand corner of the verso of the free front end page. The dustwrapper is in appalling shape – please see photograph. The front fold over panel and front panel have disassociated from the rear panel, backstrip and rear fold over panel. At one stage a previous owner had attached the dustwrapper to an underlying blue coloured card as the original dustwrapper was very chipped, pieces missing and generally in horrible shape; and this card has also now split – please see photograph. Words almost fail about how bad this dustwrapper is – the best thing I can say about it is that it at least present in some form!. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [8], 9 - 343, [1] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: History; Judaica; 1940s; Politics & Government. Inventory No: 0129814. .
